San Juan, Puerto Rico: Historic Old San Juan is the best preserved of the Spanish Colonial cities in the Caribbean. Walk charming cobblestone streets and see the distinctive architecture with bright pastel colors and wrought iron fences. Among peaceful shaded plazas and courtyards sit and watch the world go by. A must see is El Morro and El Cristobal, the two best examples in the Caribbean of fortresses left form the Spanish Empire. Lovingly restored, San Juan is also quite a modern city with great boutiques, galleries and wonderful restaurants. |
